Lukas Malkowski
True North is Lukas’s new ensemble work that wrestles with the paradox of collective identity through anthems of repetitive, intense labour. Creating transformation over time within a collective. Using hands to pull imagined materials through shared space, and movements weaving textiles from repeated stitches. Moving through cycles of repetition, unison, and dissonance, testing how evolution transpires through shared effort. Through accumulation and repetition, the work asks: What is worth repeating? How can repetition accumulate change over time? When does change become inevitable? A study of anthem, and an exploration of how collective identity can be forged through labour, tension, and mutual endurance.
In preparation for his upcoming partnership at Dance Ontario Weekend (January 23–24, 2026) at Harbourfront Centre Theatre, Lukas would like to workshop his ideas on an eager, enthusiastic group of dancers interested in specificity, physicality, rhythmicality and endurance.
Lukas’s Morning Class: Flomentum, flight momentum:
flomentum - flight momentum embodies science physics principles to flow like water & fly like the wind. Harnessing gravity to turn falling into flying, this class aims to build dynamic, reactive movement in and out of the floor, flomentum is influenced by contemporary dance, yoga, capoeira, acrobatics and break (breakdance) techniques.
Jumping between functional improvisation concepts, grooves and choreographed combinations, participants will unlock their own dynamic flow and harness the power of their own momentum!
