Audition - September 3, 2020 - Female-identifying Dancer

Kylie Thompson Dance is hosting a closed outdoor workshop/audition on Thursday, September 3rd at 8:30-10am. NOTE: this is a closed audition, and dancers must first submit a video. More details below.

Location: Underpass Park (Cement surface, please wear shoes you can dance in and comfortable clothing suitable for the weather.)

Oh, Yes is an ongoing project that began in 2019. A short version of the work was presented at the Dance - Made in Canada Festival. We are heading into new creation phases to expand the work. Recently, one of the project dancers has relocated outside of Toronto and we are looking for a replacement. The new dancer will be expected to learn existing material as well as collaborate on the creation of new material.

About the project: Oh, Yes is a highly physical work for 5 female-identifying dancers. It explores themes of femininity, identity and expression. With the ever-changing dance landscape in light of COVID-19, we are taking precautions and constantly surveying the dancers for their comfort levels and requests in terms of parameters for creation.

Known rehearsal/creation periods:

September 10-16, 2020, approx. 15 hours. (hourly rate: $23) Outdoor locations TBA across Toronto.

November-December, 2020, 15-35 hours, pending grant results. (hourly rate: $23-$27, pending grant results) Indoor location pending government restrictions with COVID-19.

Production residency and performance - early spring 2021. Site specific performance pending government restrictions with COVID-19.

KTD strives to adhere to CADA guidelines when it comes to paying artists. In an effort to stay afloat as an independent company, we modify these rates to be slightly under CADA minimums when funding isn’t available.

This project is best suited for someone based in Toronto, who is flexible with rehearsal period timing over the next 8 months.

KTD Audition philosophy: The original dancers for this work were not selected by audition process, but by direct selection by the director. We would like to host an audition at this time in an effort to reconnect with the community after having not been in spaces together for the last few months due to the pandemic. We want to hear from those who are interested in our work, even if we haven’t worked together before. Any questions, don’t hesitate to email us: kylie@kyliethompsondance.com.

CLOSED AUDITION PROCESS: Dancers are asked to submit one video of you dancing as well as a resume and letter of interest (letter can be in the body of your email - keep it simple.) prior to September 2nd. Successful applicants will be invited to the audition. This is in an effort to control the number of bodies at the audition; a maximum of approximately 12 dancers will be invited to audition. The audition will be conducted following social distancing guidelines. Audition candidates will be expected to sign a waiver of liability.
