  • What if I sign up but then book a job or something else comes up? Can I get a refund?

We cannot offer refunds due to the fact that renting of space and booking guest instructors is costly and we must secure a committment from participants to ensure the feasibility of these workshops. You may, however, transfer your reservation to someone else, but this is your responsibility. We will be accepting registration up until the start of the intensive, but cannot guarantee space will be available.

What happens if I miss part of the workshop? Can I get a partial refund?

For reasons mentioned above, no partial refunds are available. However, we know life happens and if you are unable to make a certain portion of the intensive, just let us know.

Can I sign up for workshops with individual faculty members?

Initially, no. We prioritize registration for full participation. Check our instagram the week leading up to the event, as we sometimes advertise drop-ins if space allows.

What if a faculty member is unable to attend? Can I get a refund?

The nature of our industry is that work may come up last minute and we respect our faculty’s right to accept other work. We cannot give refunds in this scenario. We promise we will do our utmost to ensure a wonderful replacement faculty is found.

FACULTY

Kylie Thompson

Kylie Thompson (she/her) is a multi-disciplinary performer, creator and educator residing in Toronto, Ontario (Treaty 13 territory).  She considers herself an ally to the BIPOC and LGBTQ2S+ communities and is committed to ongoing education, conversation and action towards equality and decolonisation of Western Dance practices.  She believes that dance is simply movement language; and holds a unique perspective in the dance industry as she continues to train in street dance forms as well as contemporary theatre/ballet based techniques.  She has a wealth of experience in both contemporary spaces as well as the commercial industry; some of her credits include Dance:Made in Canada, TIFF, DanceWorks, Barenaked Ladies, Kiesza, and more. She has been teaching floorwork and partnering to professional level students for 5 years. She has trained in the US, Austria and Italy with such companies as Alias Dance Project, Gadfly, Ultima Vez and Vim Vigor. She has been hosting various sizes and lengths of professional workshops in Tkaronto since 2017. She is so grateful for community and is ecstatic to be offering another event in this beautiful city.

Floorwork/technique with Kylie: Kylie’s class moves swiftly and aims to take the body into a state of deep release in conversation with virtuosic expansion. We’ll move through lots of ways in and out of the floor, some improvisational tasks and phrase work that challenges the brain and body! Surface scans, threads, rolls and inversions will challenge the student’s physicality, body awareness, balance, mobility and agility. Bring your knee pads and clothing that offers good coverage.

Partnering and Group Movement Systems with Kylie: In this two part workshop we’ll begin by using improvisational settings to develop movement language and communication skills; drawing on contact improvisation and reflecting on the notion of consent: methods for developing a partner practice. Observation, experimentation and a willingness to share will be our focus. We’ll explore a multitude of ways to elevate, and create flight. And finally we will explore and investigate a phrase of choreography alongside a partner.

Texture of Emotions with Janelle Hacault

From breath to sensation to emotion, this 2.5 hour workshop is an embodied approach to movement generation and artistic expression. Beginning on the floor to wake up your senses through image-based exercises, we flow through a seamless sequence that brings you to your feet. You will literally move from the ground up. Once upright, you will utilize techniques to construct various corporal textures we will use later in the class. We then prepare the voice for full body activation and expanding the range of emotional availability. By working through two distinct games that demand both movement and sound, we explore the emotional world of expression through slow and explosive instinctual reactions. These techniques are designed to deepen your body-sense listening, impulse work, and stage presence all while having fun in a safe and supportive environment. Finally, we marry all skill sets explored in the workshop to craft a mini-solo you can come back to in your own practice and evolve. Bring a notebook and pen, your curiosity, and sense of play to open yourself past limiting habits and amplify your emotional range through voice and movement.

Short film featuring performance by Janelle Hacault. Choreographed by Kyra Jean Green.
