“I’VE BEEN SHOOTING EVERYTHING FROM DANCE TO PRODUCT PHOTOS AND EVEN A WEDDING FOR 5 YEARS - I STARTED OUT SHOOTING NATURE SCENES AND CREATED A BRAND “NO HUMANS ALLOWED” - WHICH I RECENTLY DISSOLVED, AS I MOST CERTAINLY AM CAPTURING IMAGES OF HUMANS THESE DAYS! AS A CHOREOGRAPHER I’M CONSTANTLY FRAMING SCENES WITH MY EYES- THE PARALLELS BETWEEN THAT AND PHOTOGRAPHY CONTINUE TO FASCINATE ME EVERY DAY”

KYLIE THOMPSON

Kylie Thompson (she/her) is a multi-disciplinary performer, creator and educator residing in Toronto, Ontario (Treaty 13 territory).  She considers herself an ally to the BIPOC and LGBTQ2S+ communities and is committed to ongoing education, conversation and action towards equality and decolonisation of Western Dance practices.  She believes that dance is simply movement language; and holds a unique perspective in the dance industry as she continues to train in street dance forms as well as contemporary theatre/ballet based techniques.  Her body of work and practice is physical, collaborative and bridges between stage and screen.  She shoots, produces, choreographs, edits, curates, writes and acts. She believes that play and experimentation are crucial; and is dedicated to a life of learning and creating.

“In fact, for me, much of the indelible sweetness of “33/33” came from the deep sense of human connection the dancers displayed as they touched, tumbled, rebounded and flew away.”
— Penelope Ford, Fjord Review

33/33

25-minute work based on concepts and theories of numerology. It began creation thanks to the Creative Risk Residency with New Blue Dance and Kaeja’d Dance. It was presented by KTD in January 2018 as well as at the New Blue Festival of Emerging Dance in 2018. Click here to watch an excerpt.

Oh, Yes

Oh, Yes began as a short work that was made for Dance: Made in Canada Festival in 2019. The work asks the question; what does it mean to work - particularly, from a feminist perspective. It was partially created through the Open Space Residency at the National Ballet of Canada. Throughout 2020, the company continued to develop the work and is hoping to present a further developed version of the work in the future. Click here to watch an excerpt.
